What's the deal with the dragons anyway?
When I compiled my first Durkin's Dragons book, the dragon on the very first page was this one:I drew him one day a while ago just for fun. I liked him so much I kept drawing dragons until I had enough for a book. I'm not obsessed with dragons at all, they're just one of the many thousands of things I like to draw. At least that's what I thought...
My mom sent me a few things to remind me of my lifelong interest in dragons. The first picture is of a dragon costume I made, probably when I was about 12 years old or so. I think one of my sisters had the task of being the rear end.The second pic is of my old pinewood derby cars from when I was in Boy Scouts. Note the dragon on the green one!

Durkin's Dragons: Buzz Lightyear
A few days ago, I posted the black and white line drawing of the latest Durkin's Dragons parody, Buzz Lightyear. Here he is in color.I plan on appending the Durkin's Dragons: Parodies and Tributes book that I sold at MegaCon this year, and want to make it available at IndyPlanet. I've done a lot of dragons since then to more than double what was in the original book, but I need 3 more dragons to make it the proper number of pages. Any suggestions or requests?

Disney Vinylmation Caricature
The designer toy craze has hit Disneyworld in the form of Disney Vinylmation. Designer toys is a term used to describe toys and other collectibles that are produced in limited editions (as few as 10 or as many as 2000 pieces) and created by artists and designers. In Disney's case, the vinyl toy is shaped like Mickey and like most vinyl toys are sold both as limited edition designs...
...and as "blanks" which can be personally designed by the consumer.
Last night I drew Tyler, and after his caricature, he wanted to know if I would customize his Disney Vinylmation character as himself. I jumped at the chance.I can not begin to tell you how much fun this was!

Sarah-catures: Princess Sarah
Here's the latest caricature of one of my Animal Kingdom co-workers Sarah. She requested to be a princess, and I was not content in drawing the usual princess I always draw.

Alex Durkin's Star Wars Dino Boy.
In anticipation of Star Wars Celebration V, Alex has depicted his character Dino Boy in a Star Wars theme. Alex not only drew the picture, but digitally colored it all by himself. Excellent work, my boy!

Sarah-cature: Born to Run.
This week's caricature from Animal Kingdom is once again of Sarah (a Sarah-cature, if you will). It's the result of an anecdote she told me, and I just had to commemorate it in this caricature.

Jett: "The Elusive Smile", or "How to be Outsmarted by a Four Month Old."
I don't have very many pictures of Jett smiling.
It's not that he doesn't smile, on the contrary, he's a very happy little boy and smiles quite often. It's just that taking a photograph of him smiling is nearly impossible. He's such a fast mover that most pictures are blurry...
...or he seems to know when he's "on camera" and stops smiling...
...or he can't help but smile, but tries to hide it.
I guess I'm going to have to be more sneaky.

The ball is back.
Thankfully, I have a lot going on right now. I'm drawing a couple of caricature commissions, illustrating a children's book, and working on a self-promotional piece. I also have to go in and work tonight. I'm pushing that big ball of stuff up the hill right now, but I'll be back tomorrow. Stay tuned!
